f (S) A strip, slip, shred; a narrow and long piece (of cloth, metal, wood &c.) 2 A slip (of ground or land.) 3 A clamp. 4 A roll or list of a general collection, as by Government from a village; of a general contribution for a charitable or other purpose; of an assessment, amercement, or exaction in general. Note. The idea of Roll or list being dropped, patti comes to signify simply Cess or tax (the subject-matter of the roll); and, with the designating noun prefixed, forms compounds quite numberless.
