v i (odhane) To tend impulsively; to come or pass with a constraining current; to drive, or have a drift, draught, or forceful course; to bear upon with strong and steady sway; to draw towards or unto;--used of fortune or destiny, death, adversity, troubles and accidents of life, and with implication of imperative or powerful operation or bearing. Ex. ṃvate ṃodhavala pralayakala daiva odha- vale, mmrtyu odhavala, mi sudhe nkama karita asata mmala duhkha odhavale, nduhkha sukha je ṃodhavela te mbhogane mprapta, odhavale mparama kathina Note. As used of Fortune, and with daiva, prarabdha &c., the sense is not always of Calamity or evil; as parama murkha jari ṃasala daiva odhavale mmhanaje aisrvarya bhogayasa sampadate. 2 Rather laxly. To come upon determinedly, with fulness of design and force of movement;--used of calamities, enemies, wild beasts, beggars, of any event or object considered as a heavy and resistless evil. 3 Used with mmana, anthkarana, citta &c. To tend, bear, lean, incline (towards); to draw or drive (in any direction). 4 Angrily and revilingly. To come (quasi, to bring one's evil or hateful presence; to make a visitation upon).
