Meaning of 'sarava'

m S C A piece of ground recently cleared of its bushes, burned, and cultivated. The term is applied to such land esp. in the second and third year; in the first year, and in the fifth, after its lying fallow during the fourth, the term is padana, or it is said of it, padanasa ali; and the terms sarava & padana are applied also to the periods (years) in which the land is under culture or lying fallow:--according to pahilya sali mpadanasa ali pudhe ndona sale ṃsarave jhale pudhe njamina pada rahili mhanaje padajamina phiruna padanasa ali mhanaje padana.
