a (ardha) Half. Used with reference to the individuals severally of a number, or to the members or parts severally of a whole or mass. Ex. he pancavisa ambe pannasa manasaṃla vatuna dyave tara a0 amba dyava If we would divide these twenty-five mangoes among fifty men, we must give a half-mango to each; a0 khamba pura Fix the posts, each half deep. As ardhava(halfth) is the ordinal, so ardhala is the distributive, of ardha. As all the adjectives terminating in a, although with varying degrees of currency or neatness, (e. g. motha, thorala, lahanela, vegala, cangala, kala, pandhara, pivala, asala, kasala, evadha, kevadha, itaka, kitaka &c.,) assume la and become distributives, such formations, however regular and right, and however declarative of the power of the Marathi language, are, except this instance, omitted.
