Meaning of 'khalata'

n khalati or thi f (khali & nthaya) The low country; the country as it descends from the foot of the Sayhadri-range towards the coast. Opp. to valathi. Applied also, in the Konka&ntodtod;, to the land lying immediately along the coast, as valati is to the land lying inwards and ascending towards the Ghats. 2 The name of the vowelmarks u and u; these occurring under the line of writing; as velati (from valati or vara & thaya) is the name of those occurring over it.
