Meaning of 'kharakata'

a (A term of ceremonial distinction betwixt clean and unclean.) That (rice, bread, or flour) which has been boiled or in some way cooked, or which, without boiling or cooking, or without having been fried or oiled, has been mixed with water. (It is not kha0 if mixed with milk or the juice of any fruit.) Also that (hand, culinary utensil, platter, place, or thing whatever) which has such food or flour adhering to it, or lying in or on it, or which has been touched by it. kharakata food is appropriate to sovala Brahmans, and would be polluted by the touch of a Brahman in the ovala state. Dressed food, however, is kha0 amongst Shudras, with whom the distinction of sovala & ovala does not obtain.
